| Hello all fellow E39 owners. I purchased a 1997 BMW 528i, Dark Canyon Red Metallic, tan leather. Beautiful car! Craftsmanship is fantastic!
First, I read through hundreds of posts on the "lifetime" auto trans fluid. Well, I am a professional white collar worker by trade, and an avid enthusiast and restorer of many cars doing all the work myself with the best of equipment, including machining, paint body, all mechanical, etc. I am hear to tell you the first thing I did was make the flushing system that I found on this site. I completely drained the pan, drained, took pan off, cleaned magnet which was covered in filings, fluid was brown. Put new filter back in, replaced pan, and started the flushing process. The car drives like night and day! No hard shifts, smooth, no late shifting when cold in the morning! That being said, I love how this car drives.....except for a bit of lack of acceleration performance from stop. I know these are only 180hp motors, but I think they can do better. I have read gobs on all types of chips and tuners, exhaust upgrades, etc. Can anyone recommend a well known, proven tuner? I am not looking for gut wrenching off the line power, I just want better throttle response from stop and a bit more when accelerating from set speed. Thanks alot! |
