Hey there everybody, this is my first post on the BMW forums. I have a 1992 BMW 525i wagon, the E34, and it is a great car, smooth driving, just what I was looking for. Problem: the electric power sliding sunroof does not work. Where do I begin, is this something I can fix myself, or do I have to go to the stealership for this work? FYI, I have a 1992 Nissan 240SX that I have done a Silvia Conversion to, custom turbo kit, full suspension work, so DIY jobs are not beyond me in most cases. Please give me a good idea as to where I should start, if this is a common problem, all the better. Thanks again, I look forward to posting more often.

Those sunroofs can be a nightmare. not a DIY job in my opinion. Take it to a pro who really knows those roofs otherwise you risk doing more harm than good.

When pressing (in/forward/backward) at the sunroof button do hear anything? In your manual there is a basic procedure to RESET the roof that is by PRESSING IN the button and hold it for a while then you'll hear a click..the system has been reset...cost nothing and worth trying 1st! of course the above assumes good motor/ button/connections/tracks etc..
good luck

Thank you so much guys, I haven't gotten to try this out on my car yet (getting new tires today), but I'm glad that you all responded. I thank you for welcoming me to the forum.
