Whats up people,
I was in need of a new car not too long ago and had my eye set on an Audi A4. I then went into this forum, read every single topic about the 5 series, and after all the positive feedback and comments i read i decided to go and give one a spin (my uncle's-2001 525). I loved it so much i forgot about the A4 altogether and went and bought one...
1999 528se, 80K miles, finished in Glacier Green with matching leather, Auto/Septonic tranny, and all the usual goodies....Full BMW history...£8,000 (Just under $15,000). According to the car price books over here i got for the auction price!
So thanks to you guys, i cruisin in a nice bimmer, and i love it! The ride is so smooth and im sure im more happy now than i will ever be with an A4. Will post some pics up soon!
Cheers....PJV

I think the Audi would have a much smoother ride... BMW tends to be more sporty. I know from first hand experience because my family owned 2 audis so far and one BMW. BMW is not far from that... it is a perfect combination of sport and comfort which makes it more enjoyable overall.
Enjoy the car, and I am looking forward to pictures.
Good price - I paid £6400 for a 523 on a 98 plate with 86000 mls which had a book price of about £9500 - £10500 on a bmw forecourt about 5 mths ago. So you've done well too, I guess yours would have a bmw forecourt price of £11000- £12000 ish.
When I was looking for a car I tried test driving loads of cars alpha 156, Audi a4
etc. But every time I got out of them I always went back and had a look at the beamers - My missus kept telling me "You always go back and stare at them so why not just buy one and stop trailing me round garage forecourts every saturday & sunday", so I did. The nearest I got to buying another car was the Audi A4 Avant 2.4 petrol with the steptronic gearbox - Very nice, but not a patch on the BMW, I felt I was selling myself short and would not be happy with it for too long so I went with the heart and haven't looked back.
Ps Although I went for the manual box (auto just loses too much from the 0-60)the steptronic is great in these and a hell of a lot smoother than the audi (which was smooth in itself)
You've bought a great car - Enjoy & welcome to the club.
Cheers guys.....the BMW's ride i think is smooth beacuse when your drivin it you can hardly feel the bumps in the road is the handling is crisp. There is also good insulation so when your inside the car you can just hear the beautiful sound of all those horses roaring up infront of you!!
I think the septronic tranny rocks, manual tranny is just too much hassle in traffic jams when u gotta hold down the clutch e.t.c. The BMW is also really responsive...when u put your foot to the floor it just flies of the line (and you get the ASC light flashing on the dashboard).
Hopefullly wont have too many problems with the car...will post up some pics soon!!
