Hey all, I'm new to BMW's but not new to cars or performance mods. What's the difference in the E28, E34, #39, and E60. Is there a FAQ on the forum that lists all of this stuff? I'd like to look into getting a BMW, but I'm a performance car guy. I want a 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and a 1/4 in the 12's. What are my Supercharge options, and turbocharger options? Is there somewhere I can read about this info?
E28 - 5 series up to 88
E34 - 5 series 89-96
E39 - 5 series 97-2003
E60 - current 5er
a supercharged E60 M5 might be able to go under 5 seconds....... might but thats hard. There is a guy from Florida that has a fully built E34 pushing 620hp (currently working on getting 800+), and he might be getting those numbers. But then, he is running a twin turbo set up at 25+ psi on race gas... he is on bimmerforums.com (nickname: E34BiTurbo).
E39 M5 will do sub-5 second 0-60 (R&T lists 4.8, 13.3@108). I would imagine just a few mods will get you into the 12's. E60 M5 will be close to 4 seconds flat, and will run in the low 12's.
