new to BMW, help with keys

I jus traded my old land rover for a 2000 528i. but it only came with one key/remote, does anyone kno what the stealership would charge for another key and remote. also, they remote part of the key doesn't lock/unlock any doors. I had the remote tested, and it is sending a signal. could it jus need to be reprogrammed or is the problem inside the car?

stealership is going to rape you for about $200 on the new key....as far as the key that you have.....if it's sending a signal, it may just need to be reinitialized.....
insert key into the ignition, turn to the on position for 5 seconds then off
remove from the ignition
press and hold the unlock key
while holding unlock, press lock 3 times
release unlock and doors should lock

Unfortunately, this is sounding like something you may need the dealership for. This seems kind of odd to me for the key to send a signal but for it not to work. Also, where did you buy the car from if it only came with one key?

Just bite the bullet and go to the dealer i cost me $220 for a key....
