my step-mother just bought a bran new 530xi wagon (all wheel drive) this past saturday. E60 i beleive. this morning.....she starts it up....NOTHING.
no courtesy lights, nothing at all. it obviuosly appears that the electrical system blew out. she is taking it into the dealer this week. it could be the main fuse or a bad battery. thought i might let u guys know i guess. is this a problem that has happen quite oftenly? or is it just pure luck that 1 bimmer out of a few thousand broke. i mean...is BMW.....the best car in the world.
also, i have heard from several mercedes mechanics saying that BMW and mercedes have been really lacking in quality and craftsmenship over the past several years. have you guys heard the same?
i dont think new 5-ers are reliable ... guess comes after watching the top gear review of the m5 and them stating that they blew a tranny and check engine light came on and things like that... how's that for a brand new car?

sounds like one of the electronics didn't shut off after the car... any complete diagnosis yet?
I remember on the e39s, there was an issue where some of the alarms would drain the batter in a matter of hours. It could be something like that, I suppose.
Yes - BMW has been lacking in craftmanship since the e36 and up.
The last quality BMWs IMO were the e30, e32 and e34. The e32 was just incredible. If you ever have the chance to drive a properly maintained e32, you will NOT believe it's age. Sure an e39 feels excellent and probably better than an e34 - but if you find the e34 that was pampered - theres just no comparison in the feel of the car. same for e30 / e36.
But then again - the e36, e39 and e38 + cater to a slightly different market, so a comparison is hard to do. A lot of the comparisons are more like "look how much plastic the e39 vs e34 has on the interior" etc. My only real complaint is that it's supposed to be a sporty car and my e39 is like a boat in comparison the e34. It's just so unwilling to be tossed around unlike the e34. There is more refinement, but that's not what BMW used to be.
Big debate. - The e34, e32 and e30 were DEFINATELY more reliable than the e36, e39 and e38, though. Hmmm...
