Well done. Where is teh stock amlifier and can I take it out all together?
The stock amplifier is behind the paneling on the left side of the trunk, opposite the jack pretty much, take out the panel and it'll be right there. Here's a picture of the location on the e34: http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/Data...er_location.jpg
Removing the stock amp is possible, and I'm sure you could run some speaker wire from each speaker back to your head unit, but I would only do that if you just replaced your speakers and dont plan on getting an amplifier. The BMW sound system only works with all its components, As its a 10 speaker system, you wont get anything out of simply rewiring the stock speakers.
If you have already replaced your speakers however, and dont plan on replacing the amplifier, Just run some speaker wire from your aftermarket speakers and wire it up to the harness for your head unit. I wouldnt reccomend this as amplifiers are relativley cheap, fairly easy to install, and they make it sound oh so much nicer. Plus if you change your mind, you're stuck rewiring again and routing the wires in a complete diffrent direction.
That said, if you havent replaced your speakers and replace the BMW amp, you're looking at trouble. First of all the wiring harness is absolute HELL. second of all the crossovers for these speakers are built into the amplifier itself, so you're gonna have a bad time.
Sporky -- I've replaced the speakers in the car with Pioneer's, 5 1/4 inch two ways. Built in crossovers as they are two way speakers.
Also regarding the speakers, The 5 1/4 speakers when powered by the stock amp are absolutley gutless. The treble is simply alright, and the bass is downright awful. Mainly because the speakers are designed to operate at at least 40watts+, and the BMW amp only provides 25watts to each speaker. That being said, the BMW amp, which is quite small, powers a total of 10 speakers.
