Need help with my RPM meter

K so my dilemma is that i got a 1990 525i manual transmission from my uncle for free and he said it has a problem with the chip for the RPM meter. In short the RPM meter moves up and down so its hard to start up since im new to stickshift. Does anyone know where the chip is located and what is it called?
