Need Help with BMW 525i 2002

Can someone tell me what is going on with my daughters car. When I tried to crank it, instead of cranking, it made a popping sound and doesn't crank at all.

When I turn the key in the ignition, everything comes on but it doesn't crank.

Please help.....Is this going to be costly???!! Is it worth fixing???? It's in my garage and the closet BMW dealer is in Albany and Tallahassee each about 60 miles. We do have a place here that fixes them but they charge alot from what I've heard.

Thanks-

OP, It could be one of a few different issues. Having power means your battery is okay, but I would have it tested at an Auto Parts store just to make sure. Your alternator could be dead which would be why its not turning over. The best way to figure out the problem before taking it to a Dealership is to borrow or rent an OBD-II scan tool. It plugs into a port under the dash and its used to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) from the OBD system. If something like a crankshaft position sensor or camshaft positition sensor has gone bad, that could be why its not starting. If that was the case a DTC would be stored in the cars computer. This does not always trigger a Check Engine Light though.

Mike, STFU. Stop spamming this stuff. Either become a forum sponsor or GTFO.
