I recently bought a E39 535i 1997 with MK1 Navigation unit in the boot
on the dashboard there is Business CD Radio but no screen (Monitor)how did it worked with previous owner any suggestions thanks
It is possible that the previous owner did have the screen before and decided to take it out and put it in his new car. He may have had an aftermarket headunit with built-in navigation or a seperate screen just for the navigation on the dash or something. If that is the case, behind the stock radio may be a wire for the navigation still or coming from the trunk somehow into the dash or under the seat. Are you interested in putting a navigation back in it?
Well if you are looking for an aftermarket headunit that can double as a GPS. I recommend the Pioneer AVIC-N1. It is a nice size screen, for a decent price, and has awsome features such as a full Dynamics display that can tell your 0-60 or the amount of G's your pulling in your car. If you want to keep it stock, I would look on ebay or something. Ask the audio forum.
