Hi,
is it possible to install navi display unit to 1997 e39 without navi (only radio/computer display)? I'm not interested to have the whole navi sytem, only better display for radio/computer Will this work without dvd-rom unit in the trunk?

Also there was a phone installed in the car, when i bough it. It doesn't seem to function. When you press the Power button, phone flashes for a second and thats it.
Crappy old peace of hardware but car has phone controls on steering wheel and stuff, so it would be pretty practical to get it work. Or even better, if there s a way to upgrade it with some newer (looking) phone.
As i understand, there is no way i could install Bluetooth kit to 1997 e39, but anyway, are there any other upgrade options available?
Thanks guys.
On the navi im sorry to say that the screen is useless without the navigation control module which sits in the trunk as it is this module which supplys the RGB (red, green, blue) video signals to the screen.
On the phone it sounds like the phone in the car is broken. Id try to see if you can have it repaired or maybe try ebay for a replacement. Of course you are correct in that it is an old outdated phone, however I dont think any other phone will integrate into the car and use the in-car features.
What kind of phone do you have in the car?
I believe yours should be a CPT7000 which is the StarTac.
I'm using a CPT8000 in mine which is a Timeport P8767.
I hope you know it can't be just any Motorola phone of the same model,
it has to be one with the BMW software!
i think you can get bluetooth but it will run you about 800 bucks.... i was looking for it for my 99 528 but i decided it was too much... i think i found the site through bmwtips.com
