I got rear ended in my 1997 540i and my old trunk lid was garbage so my paint guy got this one and painted it but we cannot figure out was goes in the 44" long by 1" gap. The junk yard he got it from said it was a 1999 540i but the local bmw store shows no such thing to go in the gap. Please help me out and name what car this trunk lid is from and where I can buy this piece at? price?
I was going to say that space was for a small lip spoiler, but the M5 spolier is on top of the trunk, and does not come out of the back like that at all.
It is possible, albiet unlikely, that it is a Euro trunk with a lip that's mounted there. I would have guessed that any additional lip would be in the same place that they put the one on the m5 we got.
