I've had this car for about 5 years and it was 100% stock, before me. It had 70K miles when I got it, now it has about 107K miles.......................yes, I drive this car daily. I figure if I put some much time and effort, I might as well enjoy it. No point to build a car and keep garaged.
But I think I am petty much with performance upgrades/mods. I don't want to over do it. I think exhaust and maybe headers would finish the list. I don't think I want to anything else after that.
I wanted to put wide-body kit, but that is way out of my price range.
But I think I will add blue-tooth, MP3 and change my MKII Navi to MKIV and add video/DVD. However these are at the bottom of my "wish-list".
I think Widebody kits on the E39 are hit and miss. Some look great but others look like crap. You would be better off to just roll the fenders and fit a wider tyre or wheel spacers to fit them flush.
I actually had to do fender roll, because I am running 10-wide rim w/ 285 tire. Instead of traditional 9.5-wide rim w/ 275 tire. I don't think I can get any closer to the fender. Spacers or wider tire, would rub on the outside.
There is only 1 type of wide body kit I would use and its HAMANN GT-R. Its a full kit w/ fenders, etc. But I think its about $5k just for parts. Way too expensive for my taste.
Oh wow.
Yeah, I don't think I am going go that far. Emissions could be an issue and I want to keep my car daily driven.
I think headers and nice exhaust would do just fine..................Plus I need to consider that this Engine is not new. It has over 100K miles, so pushing 1,000 HP could lead towards some problems.
But I would like to add bluetooth, MP3s and change my MKII Navi to MKIV, but that's all down the road.............................unless I find a great deal.
Do you know by any chance if its required to pass emissions in Detroit. I am just curios.
I know in Denver, CO, emissions are pretty tough. Almost like in CA. But out side of Metro Denver, no emissions requires.
There was a guy here in Denver, that was selling 2002 M5 with supercharger, tuned to 500HP to the wheels. He sold his car for only $19K, all because it wouldn't pass emissions. I think car had only 50K mile (its been about a year, so I don't remember the exact mileage).
Someone got a sweet deal.
WOW. You are luck.
If I could do that, I would remove catalytic converters and would run straight pipes with high-flow mufflers, so I don't sound like a tractor. LOL.
I'm actually allowed to do that. I can run no cats with race headers and a track pipe if I wanted to do long as I have a "muffler". No cats stinks though. I've heard of guys gutting the insides of a muffler and leaving it empty.
