I need help, my 1997 BMW 528i shut off while I was coming to a stop and doesn't want to turn back on (just doesn't want to turn over). I have checked the fuel pump and the fuel relay and they seem to be working and I have a fuel tank of gas. I had the check engine light on and I was giving the OBDII code P0440

Could be one of these I believe...

A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened: The gas cap is not installed or working properly The purge solenoid has failed The canister is plugged and not working properly

P0440 is mostly commonly atributed to a faulty gas cap. Sometimes the cap wears and creates a leak resulting in low fuel pressure.

The other common cause is a faulty purge valve. Here is a DIY on how to fix it:
