I have a 99 540i Sport. The Car still has the stock 17" wheels and tires on it...I am looking to upgrade in a couple weeks...TAX TIME. I am sure someone knows how big of a tire and wheel combo can I go with NO MODS to the fenders or suspension? I don't have any problem with the way my car handles and am not trying to squeeze more out of it. But I am pretty sure I can get 18's under the car with no prob, not sure about 19's or 20's...I am sure some of you tire geniuses out there will know this answer off hand...but I don't know what to look for at this point...
I was at my local BMW dealer and they had a set of Breyton magics 20" which look nice ...but the service guy said they would only fit 7 series? If they'd fit Id buy em ...Nice wheels...
I rolled my rear fenders. Otherwise, no mods necessary. Wheels are 20" 3-piece forged, and were over $2500 each when they were new. I'm letting them go for $2800 for the set of four.
Not sure how to roll fenders...so I'll probably look for somethin more modest say like 18" or 19"...but your certainly do look Great!
Simplest thing in the world. Aluminum baseball bat at an angle inside the fender, rolling back and forth at medium pressure until the lip on the inside bends up against the fender wall. Or you can take it to a body shop and they'll have a special tool for it.
I have a 2001 525i. I recently put 19x8 (front) and 19x9.5 (rear) on. The tires are 245/35/19 (front) and 265/30/19 (rear). They went on with no mods. Actually, the car sits to high so I am going to lower it. You may not have that problem with 19"s if you have the sport package. It should sit real nice.

Damn!! I love my car! There are no stupid questions...Just stupid people asking questions!
Your car does seem to sit high. That is the stock suspension right?
I have a 1997 540i Sport. I have 235/45 up front and 245/40 on the rears on the stock 17s. No issues. I was told that you can go to 245 up front max. And 255 in the rears. More than that and they might rub. Again that is my car with my stock suspension height.
