Is this a stick?? On the automatic transmission, you do not need to replace the fluid for the life of the car (97-on).

What year is your car??

Magnets are use to remove metal chips when you change the motor oil or transmission fluid.

The magnets do attract the little filings that invairably arrive in the oil of an automatic transmission.
I really struggle to accept the fact that a car 97 model onwards,needs no transmission oilchange,especially when you consider the amount of metal spinning in an alloy case !
For me i've changed the transmission oil in my 540 every 15,000kilometres.
Good luck with all of this.

Yeah, you're right.. no transmission fluid change for the life of the car!!!! I just took my 97 540i for service and asked, was told it was not required, the repair manual says the same thing...uummm...

Oil changed
brake fluid flushed
Replaced brake lines with stainless steel (teflon coated)
radiator flushed

TOTAL= $251.45

Next project, upgrade my headlights, xenon with angel eyes... about $1600.. OUCH!! I'll post pictures one of these days
