Question M60 3.0L Longevity ???

I know this is very subjective and of course regular oil changes/maintenance are givens.

That said, roughly how many miles are the M60 3.0L rated for ?

Assuming oil changes and regular maintenance are consistent than I would imagine 200K miles plus.

Hear, hear! Though I bet 250k easy. But, do you follow maintenance schedule to the letter?

Well, I recently picked up a 94 530i w/176k on the Odometer. It's "supposed" to have a Alusil block with 90k miles on it.

The PO has yet to get me the all the papers...

I read somewhere that BMW engineers engines to go 500k, but I know that's BS (unless is a Diesel).

I suppose then they're like all other Gas engines that can go around 250k with regular maintenance. Of course there are the exceptions to the rule.

What are you folks seeing mileage (not MPG) wise out of these M60 engines ?

BMW engines can go a lot of miles when maintained properly, but so do most other manufacturers engines as well. Maintenance is always the key to longevity.

Expect fuel economy to average somewhere between 15-20MPG. Factor in occasional stop light antics and casual driving with highway cruising.
