I am new in this forum, just purchased a 1991 525I, very clean, and I have a question: Just parked it and got the "low oil" warning signal on my dashboard.
I haven't changed the oil yet, I am at my 4th green bar, I guess I should be servicing it soon....in the meantime, how much should I be adding?
And what does it mean? Am I loosing oil? becaue i don't see any leakage on the floor in my garage....could it be that it is burning oil? I don;t smell any either and when the car is running, i don;t smell any bunred oil from the rear exhaust.
Cars use up oil... depending on when yours was last changed and the condition of the engine it could be burning a lot. I suggest you simply change the oil every 3000 miles and not wait for the lights...
The engine takes about 5 quarts (not sure on the exact), but add one at a time and check after each so that you don't overfill. Difference between minimum and maximum on the dipstick is 1 quart.
