Looking To Purchase An Alpina 5-series

My previous car was just totalled and I'm looking for a new car.

A buddy of mine has a 1984 Alpina 5-Series. I'm guessing that it's the 528e since I'm in the US and with the little bit of research I did on the web. The car is in decent shape, but I'm not sure how many miles are on it.

He said that he put about $3000 into it and wants that much for it. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a reasonable price for this car or if this is too much/too little for this car.

528e's can be had for much less than that
I can't see it being a 528e if he calls it an Alpina 5, though.

It should be a 533 or something, but that may have had to have been imported.
