Looking at a '92 525 (i?)??? - BMW Forum

this is my first time on here,,, just looking for some info on the older 525 series,,,, so far this is what i know: 1992 525, 240,000km, 5speed.... just wondering what the "i" stands for (sorry im really new to BMWs)? i looked at some online appraisal sites and they gave a range of $4,500 - $6,000. the owner doesn't know what he wants for it yet, hes just started looking into selling it. he said that he was planning to have the rad replaced. is it a good idea looking at a BMW this old? is it going to start falling apart? anything i should check out first? i was planning to get an inspection done by the bmw dealer in my area. any comments or advise you might have would be greatly appreciated. cheers

it means injection.... for fuel injection, ummm.... it might start falling apart - make sure its well maintained - its gonna need some TLC, but with that it should last a bit longer. if he had some major thigns done recently, it should last a while before it needs work.

how many miles is 240k km? I have a 92 auto with 140k miles on it that i got for $6k... I regret paying that much i think it is worth $4.5-5k

240,000km = 150,000mi

thats the rough conversion anyways,,,, yeah i was hoping to get the car for about 4k cuz right now its just sitting in the back of one of the dudes rental houses,,,,, but that also has me worried that it might just fall apart on me right away.

Maybe he will let you bring it to the mechanic to get it checked out? That way you will know what will go first...

As dubumb said, see if you can get it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it. Thats what i did before i bought mine and although i know it could have been a waste of $125 if the car didnt check out, it could have been an even bigger mistake. It also gives you peace of mind knowing whats wrong with the car you've just bought.

200 000 km = 124 274 miles
29.000,00 SEK = 4.077,68 USD (but I think cars are a little cheaper in USA. VAT in Sweden is 25% !!)

yeah im totally gona go get it checked out by the dealer before i would think about buying it. anyone know the important of getting a car checked through CARFAX? it said there was 6 reports for this cars VIN # but of course you have to pay to actually see the reports. and what does everyone think in terms of rust,,,, there seems to be some small spots here and there on the car,,, and in a few places there is some trim missing. any comments?

My 92 is one of the best car buying decisions I've ever made! It was either get it painted or trade it in on a 2001 525i. I got it painted!!! What a great car! my two cents worth.
