Looking at a 528e E28 and I need your advice.

So I went to look at a 528E E28 today and the car seemed pretty nice.
My main concern is the transmission. It goes into reverse just fine, but in drive, it will almost free rev, but can get up to 15mph. it almost feels like it just isn't quite going into gear.

The guy says its a brand new trans and its most likely a valve problem.
Are there any known trans issues with the E28 5 series?

Wink

dunno what kind of attachment you have developed over the car; but look at the economics side of it all... which is what i would do if i was the buyer.

whatever the price offered might be... ask around for the price of a newly rebuilt tranny and take that away from the price offered PLUS the trouble of having to take on the job.... if i were you, that is what i would do.

don't be sorry for anything brother, you are here in search of answers, and in my opinion, as if it was me interested in that car... this is the way i would think

well he isn't actively trying to sell it, i just mentioned that my car is down for a bit and offered to sell it to me for $500

so far i'm thinking it could very well be worth it. i just haven't tracked down a trans or a shop to fix it.
