i'm currently looking at a 93 525i with 250,000 miles, they're asking $3400. it's a manual with an inline 6. things that i noticed wrong with it are:
2 broken lowbeam lenses
1 broken fog lens
gas door is broken off
rear windows don't work
check engine light...happens to come with a bentley, i looked up the code 1221 1st o2
hood release is broke but can be opened with pliers from under the dash
the radio didn't work until i closed the trunk lose wire or what?
so what should i worry about at this milage?
timing chain/belt?
clutch?
i'm a real DIYer and can handle most projects that don't envolve special tools, can i handle this? a clutch job doesn't look easy
also how are the prices for parts, i'm used to vw passat prices, is it comparable. and any recommened sites out there for parts?
i drove the car and it runs great, i'm just unsure about the milage and if i can aford it if it everything goes wrong with it

Seems ready for the great scrapyard in the sky - walk away or offer him $500.
It does sounds a lot for a car of that age and mileage ($3400usd ~ £2000gbp) for that you could get, in the UK, a 90's 525i with no broken bits.
I've seen many examples here in the UK for that money with FSH and no bits broken/hanging off. Is it top spec? air-con, cruise, leather, auto-dim mirror, internal radio ariel, etc.. Might be worth a shot if it was and you can get very cheap bits, and have lots of patients!
The fact it has the Bently manual suggests someone’s already had a go at fixing things, see where the oily fingerprints are on the pages!
I’m inclined to go for the $500 or walk, or find a better example to start with?
I’ve spent since March to find the one I wanted……
