Locking The Car

I have a 1998 528i. Is there a way to disable the sound when arming and locking my car? 2 Beeps to lock, 1 Beep to unlock.

Buy a UK model - they don't beep (just flash the indicators)!


Seriously, Talking to someone in another forum it seems this is most likely not possible (he looked through his manual).

The reason for the beeps is to indicated the siren works... you can't turn the beeps off.

I have disconnected my alarm unit due to being too sensitive to sound. Now, when the alarm goes off, only the lights flash with no siren sound.

That is an option that can be reprogrammed at the dealer. My friend had it done on his 5 series.

Bugger it!!! I just came back to say that!! I found the answer on bimmer.com or sumthin like that - Apparently the dealers can program quite a few parameters of your alarm - lights flash, siren beeps, indicators flash etc. Which is a bit of a cheek really cos here in the UK the flashing of lights on alarm activation was an optional extra - seems for your money all they had to do was enable this option.

So yes it seems it can be done after all - but at what cost???
