Link Play In Power Steering

This weekend I replaced the front shock absorbers. This included an almost complete removal of the wheel assembly. At the bottom of the strut there are three bolts that hold it together with the link arms at the bottom. These three nuts requires a lot of force to loosen and tighten. Afterwards when I had put everything together I heard the steering started to give clonk sounds when wiggling the steering wheel. I found no play in the steering linkage arms or steering wheel axle so the play must be in the power steering box. There is a play now in the steering with a clonk when changing direction. I know that other cars that has spindle drive power steering you can adjust a cogwheel so it is closer to the steering wheel axle and that way you can remove some steering play. Is this possible with my power steering or have I damaged my power steering for good?
