Hello people,

I am a bit annoid about very frequently burning light bulbs around the car.
Car: E39 -98 520 Touring.

Most of the burning lamps seem to be in rear end, but also some head lamps have burned. Has anybody faced or heard about similar problem ?

We have had a 2001 525it wagon for 10 months and 13K miles, during which time it has had 5 bulbs replaced. The dealer reports that the electrical system is OK, and that BMWs just burn through bulbs rapidly. This seems beyond the pale, though!

I have the same problem on a 2000 528 touring. Dealer checked the electics and said that the alternator / regulator were in tollerance but the output voltage was at the low end of tollerance. They said that the voltage being low was likely the cause of the bulbs blowing and advised replacing the alternator for 1200 Euros! Lets just say that I was feeling polite and so didn't tell them to F*** off. This is my first BMW and basically the quality of the car is crap; the electronics belong to the worst part of the car, and the workshops are of even lower quality than the car.

Thanks for the information, however the cost of solving a problem sounds unbearable...
(Would be nice to hear, if someone have done that change and got rid of the problems..)
