I am trying to determine what the latest version of sw for a E39 540i6 (08/99) is.
The local dealer indicates there is no new sw - but I get the sense they are not quite interested in checking.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject of sw for E39/540i6 (08/99)?
I am specifically looking for answers to the following questions:
- What is the latest rev for an E39 540i6?
- What are the improvements over the prior revs?
- How can one check to see what rev is installed in the car?

thanks
gmal

it would be the engine control software, resident in the ECU.

- What is the latest rev for an E39 540i6? The only revisions are for the Programing software in the BMW tester called DIS or GT1. The latest revision is 39.2

- What are the improvements over the prior revs? There are only additions for any known problems usually emissions problems which are covered in recalls.

- How can one check to see what rev is installed in the car? Not possible, the SW version is only shown by "programmed control unit number" not by the cd operating SW #
