I am a newbie to this forum and have just acquired a 1998 540i (not the sport package) it has 77000 miles on it and I have just had the thermostat and the 2 pre-cat oxys replaced. it also had a knock sensor code come up but I was told that the job required to replace it would run about 1800 dollars as it was the same as if I was doing my valley pan.
I am not aware as to what level of importance the knock sensor holds as far as it doing any damage to the engine.
Am i able to drive the car? or is it something that will do irreparable damage in a short period of time.
I would appreciate any feeback as I have checked this forum and it seems to be the most experienced when dealing with the bmw.
