Is This Kit Worth It?? - BMW Forum

I am about to rebuild my engine and I am looking for kits/parts.. I am having a hardass time finding them, but here is one that I found and I want to know if its worth the price?? Should I buy the parts seperate rather than buy a kit from this site?? Or should I just slap in an M5 engine??

I do want an M5, but no money for that now, so I just want to get my car running right and somewhat fast until then.. What do you think??

dude, u can get a used engine from a 540i from a junkyard for like 500...

Where are you located in southwest michigan??? I would just go with what torque said, a 4.0 liter V8 should supplement enough power for your liking.

Im from the St.Joe/Berrien Springs area.. 500 bucks??? Yeah right!! Its hard to believe! All the ones i've been to I can never find one or what i've searched for online, I can never find anything cheaper than 1000 or 1500.. If you find one, can you let me know pleeease?? Of course, Id rather put a 540 engine in!

I live in Saint Joe, I will have to look out for your car. You might be able to get a 540 engine for that much but it would probably need some work.

Is that your car in the pic??? If it is, I havent seen it around yet.. I am in MN right now, but im coming back tomorrow.. I doubt you will see too much of my car in the snow though.. its not the greatest in these conditions..

How hard do you think it would be to install this sucker??

That 3.8 litre motor will put out 340 horsepower and 295 ft lbs of torque compared to the 282 hp and 295 ft lbs of torque in the 4.0 litre.

How much slower is the 540 engine than the M5?? The M5 engine is just a bit pricey.. I found one with an M3 transmission (both fitted together already, with all the wiring, and everything) for 6k. To me, thats too much money right now. I would probably install it myself, or at a friend's shop, so i would save money for installation, but what do YOU recommend? Is getting the 540 engine a good thing? Obviously its easier than getting a hold of an M5 engine.. What do you think?
