Ok I have 3 keys to the car so Im sure it is not a dead battery in the key. This morning they worked fine, I drove to work pushed the button on the key to lock it and nothing happens, no lock no unlock, no open trunk? Anyone know what the problem is??

Have you tried to re-code the keys to the vehicle? I had one key that went dead because of the battery. After replacing the battery I had to insert the key into the ignition, turn it to position 2 - hold one button down while pressing another 3 times. You should find the process in your manual for the correct way to do it for your year and model. The other thing is that if all three keys had batteries installed at the same time..they cold all be needing replaced. Good luck.
I have a '02 E39, my sales guy told me that the battery in my keyless entry is recharged when its in the ignition. I presume then that I won't need a new battery. I'm told to rotate the keys (spare and "main" key) so both will retain their charge.
BUT.... my keyless did fail once. Locked the car but did nothing when I tried to unlock. I used the key to unlock it that time but it didn't happen again.
Thanks for all the advice I fixed the problem. As is the case 99% of the time ALWAYS ALWAYS check the simple answer first, it was a blown fuse!! Replaced fuse, reprogrammed key and problem fixed!!!! up

Was the fuse in the right rear of the trunk? If it starts popping constantly, replace the fuel fill door lock actuator.
