just purchased second bmw had a 90 535. this is an 87 528e auto w 148000 miles. Today the power seat went out it still works in all other directions but when pressed to go forwards or backwards it just clicks and makes the interior lights dim and does nothing. luckily it is stuck in the postion for me but the car is for my wife Im 6'2" she's 5'0" needless to say must fix it now. Any suggestions on what to do. i checked the cables and they seem fine maybe the bushings or something in the motor. thankx
I had sort of the same problem in my 90 525i, the dirver seat would only go forward, up and down. I pulled the switch knob off and sprayed some electric contact cleaner in the switch and moved it in all directions. That seemed to work. I would try that first, if not then it may be a bad switch
Thankx but i dont think it is the contact switch bc when i press it it dims the light and makes a noise so it is putting a load on the battery. i went by a garage and the said it could be anything from a penny jammed in the track to needing a "new" used motor. well see im going to try and pull the seat out and see if it is blocked.
