Well i bought a set of projector of ebay..well it looks good and all, but the light output is like crap! I perfer my halogen better! Sorry my camera is not working or i would take a picture of it. But i am going to get a HID conversion kit and see if it would be better...if not i am going to scrap it!
What model car do you have and what brand projectors did you buy? My Hellas are amazing with 35W HID bulbs, I have found myself when driving with halogens with the brights on to be bright lighting people and getting flashed because I don't realize they are on high beam because my projectors with HIDs lit up the road right in front of me way better. I would suspect that either the projectors are cheap, or they are HID projectors, which I guess in theory would lower your light output with halogens, but I haven't actually seen a comparison.
I would assume if it scatters halogen lights it would HID as well. You might either have a poor product that needs to be returned on warranty (if there is one) or it is just a company that makes a low quality product, hopefully it will work out in a positive way for you, best of luck with it.
If the light pattern isn't good with halogens, it's only going to be worse with HIDs; not to mention you'll blind the living hell out of everybody coming towards you. ebay stuff is hit or miss when it comes to this sort of thing.
It's been a while...but have you fixed your lights yet? What model is your BMW, you should check out our Preadator V2's. I picked them up for my E46. Took me a little over an hour to install, but they look SWEET.
