Oh my God, my first Bimmer! I'm so pumped. Reading through the threads helped me decide, thanks. It's a 2002 525i with 44,000 miles. Any advice?

Buying this car has changed my life. I have never owned anything quite like a BMW. I've spent the past two days driving it and it has lifted me up mentally. I crave the finer things in life more than ever. Just a few crazy thoughts...

Congratulations, and welcome! Sounds like you got a really nice one! I too love driving my E39, and in fact my erstwhile Civic seems so much like a cheap toy by comparison. My mother now drives my Civic (it's a '98, she had a '91DX and always liked my '98), so I get to revisit my previous ride every now and then. My term for what it's like driving the baby-butt-smooth E39 down the highway: "magic carpet ride"...
Please keep us informed of your progress on your 525! At a "mere" 44k miles, it doesn't sound like there's much for you to do or look out for. Just enjoy driving that thing, man!!

Oh, one other thing - please don't take this as preaching, and I only intend to help, but referencing your statement that your car changed your life - I am truly very happy for you! My thing is to be careful to not let myself be "defined" by my car! (Example - You're in too deep if for instance they had to create a headstone for you today and the most prominent thing on it about you would be that you own a BMW 5-series).
As Shaquille O'Neal once noted when he had to change numbers when joining the Lakers: The number doesn't make the Man, the Man will "make" the number. Similarly, that has always been my warning not to derive my personal value based on what I own or drive! Remember - it's a very awesome car, but it is after all still "just" a car...
Sorry to get heavy on you so early... :P
