My 97 540 has quite an annoying squeaky sound coming from behind the steering wheel or out of the steering wheel coloumn when turning to the left and right.
Any of the forum suffered with this ?
Tell me if you can what the problem is here.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem on my 98 528i. I posted topic
http://www.bmw-forums.com/forum/index.php?...4181&hl=dberger
and really haven't tried anything yet to fix. It seems worse the colder it gets.

If you are able to fix yours, can you let me know how?

See bottom of list on this web page: http://www.540i6.com/probsfixes.html

Apparently there's a TSB about the issue out there.

Thanks. Do you know if a slip ring something I can replace myself or does it involve removing the steering wheel?

I have a 97 540 with the same issue. Has anyone tried any DW40 or silicon spray?
