| Input/Info on '95 530i (V8)? Hi guys,
I'm VERY new to BMW's, so bear with me. I have a chance to snag a 1995 BMW 530i with 190000km on it. It has the v8 3.0L motor, and I believe this is called the M60 series? It also comes with an automotic. The only thing wrong with it is the rear driver window doesn't go down. Since I'm new to this, I thought I would get the opinions of guys who know what they are talking about.
Firstly, how "good" is the automatic transmissions on these things? I absolutely hate automatics, having had bad luck with them in the past. That being said, all the automatics were domestic vehicles, so... I also am wary about the "lifetime" transmission fluid concept... That just sounds crazy to me. How difficult is it to change the tranny fluid on these?
Secondly, what is the take on the M60 motor? I've read about the Nikasil problems, but I'm assuming that 15 years later, and 192k later, that the problem would have shown itself by now on this specific car. Any other things to be hesitant about?
Lastly, how expensive is it to change out a power window motor on these vehicles? I'm very mechanically inclined, so that isn't an issue. Mainly it's just how expensive spare parts are, and if there is a big market to draw from?
Anyway guys, thanks for taking the time to read this drivel. Like I said, I'm new to BMW's, and don't want to spend good money on a car that isn't worth it. Cheers -Hansol |
