They need to have a 72.56mm hub center, 5x120 bolt pattern and et20 offset.
It's fairly easy to find wheels ... any e34, e38, e60 etc wheels should fit. 3 series wheels wont work and e39 wheels will need hubcentric rings (74.something to 72.56 -- usually costs like 20 dollars).
From the looks of things a 17" is the biggest I could squeeze in there, just by eye mind you. A set has caught my eye but they only come in 18's there wouldnt be any hope would there?
If they're 8 inches wide or less, they'll work. You'll need 215/40/18 tires and they absolutely have to have offset in the range of et18 to et20. Otherwise you'll probably rub somewhere.
That said, that tire size isn't really all that popular so tires become somewhat expensive. Personally, I'd stick to 17s
