I've been experiencing strange stall outs w/ my 2000 540i 6 speed. Basically, quite often when parallel parking on an incline or in a very tight spot, my tach drops below the last tick mark and stalls. It's also happened during stop and go traffic on the freeway. I've taken it to the dealer and they've fed me the line about how the technician couldn't "replicate" the issue in the parking lot, and since nothing was reading wrong on whatever diagnostic test they've done, they've sent me home like I'm imagining the issue. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could there be an issue with the idle "doohickie"? HELP!! ghead

I'm not sure what the problems is but the answer you got from the dealer sounds familiar. Did they charge you a $100 for diagnostic fee too, like they charged me?
could actually be a software problem. There was a SIB for reprogramming some of those cars. Contact the dealer or have TECH look up the bulletin. You may have a vacuum leak too or even a malfunctioning IAC valve.
