I'm selling my '99 540 6-speed!

All - I will be listing my 540 for sale on AutoTrader and cars.com once I finish replacing the alternator at the end of this week. Check out my vB gallery for the particulars, but the major details are: Sport package, heated front seats, split folding rear seats. I have the original window sticker and can e-mail an image of it to anyone who'd like to see it.

NADA Values (540/6, Sport package, 130K miles):
Retail = $15,150
Trade = $12,375

Kelly Blue Book Private Party Value (540/6, 130K miles, sport package, 6-disk CD changer)
Excellent = $14,440
Good = $13,340

I'm going to list my car at $13,850, hopefully by friday night, unless someone here is definitely interested. If anyone is interested, please send me a private message & I'll respond.

In order to keep this post on-topic - My alternator has been out of my car 2 weeks and I am still waiting to get it back from the alternator shop (who had to send it out of state to be rebuilt). Once I receive the alternator (any day now), I'll be ready with Genuine BMW coolant and a new alternator o-ring seal (it's water-cooled). BTW, removal of the engine-driven cooling fan and shroud was a snap with a 32mm wrench and hub holding tool purchased from a great e-Bay seller named "alkyracer101".

Yep, I have a feeling that someday, aided by photogenic memory, I'll be regretting letting this one go, just as I regret selling my '72 Corvette convertible back in 2000 (right before the values of such cars took off, not to mention the pure body shape and V8 rumble of that car). But I feel it's the right decision for me right now.

Ugh. Why so far?

I am actually interested, but would not have enough $ to have the vehicle shipped!

I was going to say .. Roadtrip to VA - but that doesn't work, considering I'd be trying to sell the car I plan on driving up.

Good luck with the sale, hope it goes smoothly. I'm sure your going to miss her at first, but there are lots of 540s to hop into if you ever want to go back to one.

Dude, I once took a train to NYC to purchase a car I'd found (2002), flew to Detroit for another (1986), and took road trips to South Carolina & North Carolina for others. Don't let the distance stop you!

Seriously, it's cool. Someone has already expressed interest in buying it and we are working through that process. The car is quite stunning in person (hey, it's an E39, right?), so I'm confident it'll sell.

I hope I'm not scooping Eric if I inform the board that his car is going to be here to stay. Under new ownership.

Man, how do you get around so quickly?!? I just got done with dinner! You definitely scooped me, but that's totally OK!

I am glad my 540 will remain a part of Bimmerwerkz, my favorite forum since I first purchased my car 2 years ago. You are welcome to use the same avatar photo! Are you going to rename yourself to "540UND"? The next group I join I'm going to take the name "Mr. Jingles", after that incredibly stupid-looking DVD cover we see every time we visit the movie store...:lol:

On a more serious note, I am VERY happy that my 540 has found a caring owner!

I argued a LOT less with Eric than I would have with a dealer about the price point of the car--paid a decent bit more to him than I would have paid a dealer. But at the end of the day I pretty much know how he's treated it and what to expect from it, and that's not something you can get from a dealer. Period. In addition, everything he's done to it are things that I would have done to it too, so at the end of the day, I guess I'm technically saving time and bother :-)

Now all I need to do is re-teach myself how to drive a manual transmission. It's been quite a while.

M3UOND - I got your car-to-be put back together today (alternator arrived Friday) and gave it a brief road test. MAN what torque!! I really MISSED that! Still I think you're going to notice the car's size compared to your E36. It's a big, fast boy.
