Well.. you want a 5 series for sure? My mother has a 530i. Ive driven it quite a few times and i can say its a shitload faster than my 1988 325is. Its faster, it grips better, it stops quicker. Its an all together better car that is even heaver than mine.

However it doesnt feel fun.

The e39 5 series interior design makes me feel like im driving a buick LeSabre. I personally hate it. the exterior looks awesome but all that wood trim and claustriphobic interior ruins the BMW ride for me. To many curves...

If you want speed id recommend a used 330 because i can say for one the engines got some kick to it. And in that lighter body itd be pretty fast.

2001 330-fast,upgradeable, low miles, later technology

older M3 if you want to spend the time maintaining it.

i would highly recomend a e36 M3

but if ur set on a 5, go e34 m5

it is not inferior to the e36 M3 at all, but rather difficult to find and maintain.
