Hey, I did find a 1990 E34 M5 engine in Seattle, it has around 80k miles on it though, otherwise looks perfectly clean. The guy was asking for around $1,200 for it, but by then I did not have an E34 and had no interest in it (wish I did and bought that engine!). Are you sure you can easily drop in an M5 engine in a E34 with M20/M30 engine? What about the engine mounts, tranny, etc? I'm not too experinced about BMW E34 engines so fill me in on that, since I do have a 1990 E34 535i with about 155k miles on it, but still running fantasic and like new. It's been serviced every 3 month, and I mean MAJOR servicing, the kind that makes your eyes bulge, yep I'm talking 2-grand overhauls and was not even near needed! I guess the previous owner was paranoid and became overly attached to the car. Now my other point is why are you thinking of an M5 engine swap if your current engine has relatively low/average mileage? I thought the legendary 3.5 "Big-6" engine can last well over 350k miles?
Well, fine guys... if you wanna drool and snag an M5 engine, for the sake of bragging rights to accomplish higher 0-60 times or be able to burn serious rubber, go for it! But if my memory serves me right and assuming you guys live in America, what good is an M5 engine with a 70mph speed limit? *grin*
the average speed on the I-5 is 80mph. thats average...now i go any where from 80-100. only been to a 100 a few times though, when there isnt much traffic. it gets scary when you are going that fast in a car that is 9 years old.
anyone kno bout how much an e30 m3 engine would go for speaking of engine conversions... I plan on doing something like this guy did to 2002: http://www.m2bmw.com/m2bmw/cooper.htm

E39 540i...coming soon
lol!! Ok! ok... guilty as charged. I at times go over 80 up to 100mph (passing speed when needed or to overtake these generally crazy mustang drivers zipping lane to lane). But hey, got to have SOMEONE who's trying to uphold the "posted speed limit" signs... Although I never got a ticket either. The fastest I've ever went in my '90 535i was driving through Montana, went almost 130mph before I realized the car was going that fast and the car felt like going only 30mph, yeah these endless roads does grow on you and make you temporarily insane *grin*.
