How many miles can I get out of a 1998 525i?

I'm thinking about buying a 1998 525i with 160K miles and I'm wondering if I should buy the car. How many miles can I get out this car? How many miles do you have on your car? Thanks for the input.

Should be good for more then 200k as long as it is well maintained. My 91 only has 146k.

I would say a bit more than that, my neighbour has 1997 520i which has just passed the 300,000 mark, he has had it from 125,000 and told me the secret is to service them every 6000 miles, oil, filters, coolant and diff and gearbox oil change every 50,000.

Service every 6000 miles.

depends where you buy your products from and if you do it yourself

approx: 100 dollars for all the fluids and filters

Yea if it maintained well with synthetic fluids and frequent up keep it should last a while. My 1990 525i has 270k on it and still runs strong with original tranny and engine.

I've got a 89, 525i with the older M-20 engine and it has 367,000+ miles on the original drivetrain and I'm going for 400K. No problems whatsoever, I just keep the timing belt changed every 60K and she's serviced at my local BMW dealer every 3~4K and use BMW 15w-40 mineral oil.
I also bought a 1990 535i with the M-30 engine and 5-speed gettrag tranny, 3.64:1 Posi rear and it had 214K on it when I got it.
I regularly run both cars up to the Governors, 134mph for the 525 & 144mph for the 535.
As long as the car has been properly maintained by the original owner, and he/she can document it, I'd buy it in a minute.

I've also got a 1989 525i (09/88) and it just turned 300,000 miles. However the odometer stopped at 300,000. I've heard that this is the case for the E34 produced 02/89 and back.

OLD F4 Pilot: Did your odometer stop @ 300,000?
