Hey guys, like some may know i'm planning to build in a V8 into my M535i E28. I've found a 730i from 1992 with a 3ltr V8 (an M60 i guess) and the price is pretty right... Soo i'm thinking about meaby buying this one.. But i have heard some stuff about the nikaseal treathement from the M60. Are those stories just as bad as the say? The all say that bad petrol with high amount of solvor (zwavel in dutch) will damage the nikaseal. I now that i need to listen to bad idle of the engine that could be an effect of the damage.
Soo should i go for the M60 or go for the M62 instead..
Stick to the M62 in my opinion. I have an M60 (4.0L) on my 840ci and it runs fine. With the M60 you're taking a chance unless you inspect the engine and look for vibrations and oil leaks. Go ahead and google "nikasil" for additional information. The M62 is also stronger and bigger (4.4L)

I see a bit of different opinions. Are the M62 really as good as they say than? i've seen the information on the internet and oke they have there weak points but i don't know if thats a bad thing..
well i will take thinks in reconsider.. the M62's are just not easy to find and the cost a couple of 100 euro's more.. and it's not that i've got money growing on my back.. and this car i can buy for a really good price and than i can swap everything over that i need. soo that's a advantage too..
Are there any real spots that i need to look or watch for when i check the M60?
Well i don't know if i'm able to do a compression check at that guy. But otherwise i will look for bad idleing and that kind of stuff.. In Holland we don't have that kind of bad petrol (we all have octane 95 or higher and it's lower on sulfor than in the USA or Canada) soo i don't know for sure if we would have as much problems with the sulfor. Does anybody meaby knows if i could use some parts (brake calibers or something from a 730i from 1992? because meaby i'm gonna buy the hole car instead of only dismounting the engine and bring it back to the scrapheap.
Hello people i've got some good news if i can thrust the internet. I've checked the VIN number and it seems that the car has an Alusil engine!! It's a 730 from 1995 and not from 1992. Soo i'm going to go to the guy tomorrow to listen to the engine and check some more stuff and if thats oke i'm gonna bring the money up to the table.
well keep you guys updated!
Yesterday i've been at a guy for a new interieur of my M5 and he called me up this morning to go and have a look on ebay.co.uk... and they 740 (yep 4litrsssss) are damn cheap overthere soo i'm going to bid on some or call them up and get one!
