I have a 97 528i with 213,000 and everyday I cant believe how perfectly new it feels. I cant believe the odometer in fact I have had to clock it with another car because I just cant believe its right! Original engine/tranny.
I would love to see what everyone has here for milage on original engine/tranny. Post away...
I have 1992 525i sport auto saloon with over 225,000mls & drives like a dream
Just one thing I had a intermittent overheating prob(once or twice every couple of months) but as soon as I put the heating controls on it went straight down to normal temp also the display often came on 'coolant level'; eventually the rad burst, so I replaced the rad, thermostat & coolant sensor but 'coolant level' keeps coming up on the display, any ideas?!

well the rad, tstat and sensor... you still have the water pump (could leak from the weep hole for a while before it totally fails) and you have quite a bit of hoses there.
Intermittent over heating seems like an air bubble - so might as well check the WP and all hoses.
As for my cars it now has 135,500 (shes a 1990 525)
and the "other 5er" (e39) has 110,000 now. (shes a 1998 528)
Guess it's time for a new one!
Not much input from Europe here so here's some from the UK (allegedly part of Euope :-)...For this size of car diesels are the only game in town now in Europe, the performance of modern diesels is so good that only petrol-heads and those with money to burn buy big engined petrol cars. My 1998 525 tds (affectionately known as 'tedious') is a pre-common rail engine so is not that powerful (144 bhp)..but I've had it for 4 years now and its up to 112K miles. Its a steady, comfortable cruiser that's doing about 1900 rpm at 70 mph...3000 rpm is a 100 mph so I try not to go there! I would be interested to hear more high mileage stories as this is such a well build car, much better than my previous car, a Volvo which are supposed to hold most of the high mileage accolades
We finally got our tranny back (had to ship it to Phoenix to get it built the way we wanted) and now she is back on the road again and running like she did when she was "young".
She just topped 380,000 miles and there is no end in sight.
1988 528e with 320K, dropped a valve Christmas shopping a couple of weeks ago. I was not in a good place to stop and had to drive it about a mile. Turns out the head of the valve broke off and wore a hole in the piston bouncing around. Trying to dispose of the remains and find another. I found you guys while trying to research a '94 540i I am considering.
1995 530iT 211,000 miles.everything perfect.no drips everything werkz.its unbelieveable.........wait one thing i forgot,i have on order a new heated seat switch for drivers side because bulb went out,,,but everything else oroginal somehow?? i'm only owner.i graduated high school in 1995 and it awaited me at home.she runs perfect.i love her so much she has high miles and i have a 1997 mountaineer in garage too w/27,000 miles
Its me again.....about 10,000 miles later. I'm at 245k and my BMW(92' 525i) is so strong its ridiculous!!! Just changed my plugs and my gas mileage has gotten better plus I feel a little more "get up" when I pull off! This particular car I probably will never sell.
328i auto,68,000,had it since 41,000. only had the header tank and the airflow meter give up.Driving it to Scotland next month then Greece in September, she drives like new.
