How Do I Pull The Ignition Key Cylinder On A 525i, Changing a key cylinder,it is a 1997 auto estate.i have brought a whole steering with key. but do not want to put the whole lot in,just want to change the lock?????????
thank for your help used
I'm trying to do the same thing with a 92 525i but havn't had much success. Somebody replied that you have to sticka 2mm pin in the cutout slot around the key hole but I can't get it to work.
it is kinda trickey even if you have done it before. my only advise is to turn the key really slow while pushing on the pin, and sometimes it helps if you kinda wiggle the pin around while pushing it in. you can also use a paper clip to do the same job. another thing to consider is the EWS. which i can't quite remember if they had it on 97's, but if your car has an EWS key ring around the lock cylinder it might not work anyway sine the EWS has to sence the original key is in the key ring for the car to start. you might be able to get away with just having the old key on the keychain and it might be close enough for the key ring to sence the chip in the key. although like i said i can't quite remember when they started usung the EWS key ring. maybe someone else could shed some more light on that topic
