I bought a 1995 525i a few months ago and it drives amazing but when i get to around 110 km/hr if im driving in automatic mode it won't shift into 4th gear and "trans program" comes across the dash. But if im driving it in manual (not sport mode) and shift it from 3rd to 4th manually it works fine but at a high RPM. Driving at 140 km/hr it runs at around 4500 RPM's. Is this normal or what? Please help! Thank-you.
Not engaging 4th is an issue. It may be that its time to give the transmission a service (oil & filter change). Start with that at a Auto Trans specialist shop and see what they come up with.
