Hello to all, My name is Rich, and incase you are wondering, I'm new.lol anyways I ran across a 1992 525 for $5,500 w/175000miles on it. Now this car has all maint. records and it is a very sharp looking well maintained vehicle. Although, I was wondering what is considered high milage on this model or for bmw's in general. Tks.
I'll try to answer your question-in general- while leaving the specifics for other members. It all depends on the ex-owners driving habits, style and maintenance. 100K is high on some while 250K sounds more like it on other Bimmers. Having said that, BMW engines are tough to kill but you have to stay on the top of it-maintenance wise. The way I see it? I6s are less demanding than the V8 i.e. more economical and less expensive to maintain. At the end of the day these engines do outlive their ¼ of a million mile stone!!!
Wishing you the best of lucks on your purchase
regards

So $5500...is that reasonable for a 1992 525 w/175000miles. I just feel like this car will run forever. I know how the quality of the bmw's are, and we need something in 4dr and you can't really ques. it considering all the maint. records. but I've never bought a vehicle or a bmw for that matter with this many miles. What should I look for when looking at it in person?

yeah i would take numberthree's advice. I recently bought a 94 540 for 6300 with 118000 miles on it. there is no reason that you should pay 5500 for a 525 with alot more miles on it. my roomate (numberthree) bought a 525 with similar miles for 2500. I'm sure you can find a better deal. Check autotrader.com, there is lots of great deals there. That's where i found mine.
5500 is a little high, I got my 1990 (same body style) in great condition for 3600 with 120,000 miles on her. They will run for quite a long time, but just make sure you are careful with checking over maintenance records, etc. Getting it down to 4k including a prepurchase inspection wouldn't be a bad idea as long as she checks out ok.
haha, i got my 95 525i for like $25,000. but of course that was back in, umm year 98ish. 5500 does sound kind of high. i would be lucky to sell my 95 525i with 131k for something around that price.
