Hello and thanks for a site like this, my first post and it a problem....ha ha.
Can some-one please help? i just brought a 1995 530i v8 and have problems starting it.it starts one in every 10 times but seems not be be starting at all now.The previous owner had problems with the air mass meter and unplugged it , i brougt a new air mass meter removed the battery to reset it and now it does not start at all unless you tow it with another car and start it in 2nd gear,it cranks but just wont start and there is a strong smell of fuel in the engine,thanking you

Does it run well once it's roll-started? Anyway, my first guess is a fuel delivery issue.

yes it starts when we tow start it and runs ok till we wanna start it again

Thats got to be a fuel pump problem, as the fuel pump even though electric does not pump until the engine is turning even if you sit with the ignition on it does'nt pump until you turn thr engine, so by towing the engine its turning mega time and the petrol is being pumped through.

Thanks guy,s but there is a strong smell of fuel when you try to start the car as if it is flooding can it then still be the fuel pump?

Ok we tested the fuel pressure and it,s ok...We took out on plug wire and tested it there is no spark, so maybe you can help me to look where may the problem be as crank sensor seems ok?thanks

The ignition coil(s) and the distributor (if it has one) and the plug wiring may all need a look.
