Help w/ onboard computer functions 540I

I made the purchase of this wonderful 1997 540I recently, but it only came with the basic manual. The on-board computer has many functions..most I have been able to figure out. A few, I am clueless about. If anyone knows about the below listed funtion questions - please help me out here.

** There are two "Timer" functions. Timer1 and Timer2. What do they do? I have set one of the Timers for 5 minutes ahead of the current time and when the time passes ..nothing happens. I mean no chime - no beep - no total melt down mode...nothing. Does anyone know what these two timers are for and how they are to be programmed??

** There is a "Memo" function. Now I have messed with this thing and found in the off mode that the clock does not chime on the hour. So, I believe that it just chimes off the top of the hour. However, the chime happens 1 minute prior to the hour. Is this normal? Is there a way to set the Memo feature so that it chimes at the hour?

I know these things seem simple..but hey..I just want to have a complete understanding of this machine ...even that sucky rear seat cupholder.

I have the same exact problem. I just recently discovered this same function. I am trying to get the stopwatch feature to work so I can clock my 0-60 time, I still can't figure out what to do. The date still works and stuff like that but it would be a lot cooler to know how to use the other features.

PS. I also have a 1997 540i

My computer chimes at 1 minute to the hour and not on the hour (e34) and I presumed this was normal.

Don't know about the rest, I have enough trouble with mine which is probably much simpler.

guys. the timer is for independant heating. i.e you can set the time for the climate control to come on.

i think think that the memo butoon you set for every hour and it chimes ie so just before the news so you know that its coming. anyhow thats the story on my '99 540i

If I may add to the timer comment,

If your car has been park in the sun for eight hours, you can set the timer to activate the a/c with out you being inside the car. This way by the time you get in, the interior will be cool...
