Help Needed - 525d Won't Start?? - BMW Forum

Ok story goes that this car has been standing for over a year without being started. The cars ignition lights all come on as they should & the DDE light comes on & goes off as it should. The engine will spin over nicely but fails to even try to start. I have checked the fuel pump under rear seats & they seem fine, have checked the pre pump under the passender seat & that seems fine - Fuel is getting to the fuel filter. Had codes read on computer & the only one that showed up was a EWS power fault, so i bought another DDE, EWS module, barrel & key & still fails to even try to fire??

I have also checked the fuses in glove box & again they seem fine - i thinking either HP Pump which i have read about or is the fuel cut off switch/valve stuck that tells the car to fire (if it has one??)

i have now removed the Original Control Box, EWS Module, Barrel & Key from the 525d & fitted to my other car (53 -530d) & it started start away, so i tried the 530d Control Box, EWS & Barrel & Key in the 525d - still won't start. So my conclusion is its not a immobiliser problem.

I did also try un-doing the fuel feed from the HP pump to the common rail to see if any fuel is coming out when its turning over & it doesn't!! So would this suggest the HP pump has gone - or is there a cut off switch somewhere (which could be stuck) which which tell the pump not to work when the ignition is turned off ??

Any help will be gratefully received !!!

What diagnostic software was run ??

I had a mobile mechanic read it with his software (know idea what?) - then i have rececently bought a scanner from ebay with software called 'BMWScan 1.36' - it can read & reset faults but nothing really coming up??

Any suggestions on what i should be using or someone in my area who can help??

Well if you look where I live ! would you say Im in your area ????????? I dont mind coming over, But alas Im not free £30 cash sorry but this stuff does not come free, if I dont find anything with my diagnostics no charge! hows that sound ? I don't mind paying, i wouldn't expect anything for free BUT what software are you using?? Is it similar to BMW's and does it give live data etc.

The Glow Plug light comes on & goes off again as you would expect -BUt i have know why of telling if the plugs are working. Do you know where the glow plug relay is on the car??

Thanks for that info - but thats the older tds diesel & mine is the common rail. The relay is not in the box?

Im running BMW Carsoft 6.5 via laptop OBD1/ OBD2, full diagnostic/ individual diagnostic, live DME/ Live DDE/ Live EGS, thats about it really!!

He has sorted it, it was found to be the HP pump.
