I own a 94 525I, was on the way to work today, driving 55, had a slow down on the freeway, dropped it into 2nd. Everything seemed fine until I accelerated and went to shift into 3rd gear. At first, I could hardly shift it out of 2nd. I had to fight with it, Once I got it to shift, I can not get back into 2nd for notthing. It grinds when tried. All the other gears work perfect.
sounds like the syncro went.... Question how har do you shift into second? and be honest it will help in diagnosing....

Yep, grinding gear... bad synchromesh gear... transmission needs to be pulled to replace. I have had same issue in mazda Rx7, Mustang GT, Prelude Si...
Can you get it in if you hold the clutch, rev the engine, then pull slightly on it as the revs go down? It should engage when the gear speeds match up. i used to have to do that in my prelude, it would almost have to come down to an idle before I could shift it in without it grinding. But i can almost guarantee that if all your other gears work fine, its the 2nd gear synchro that is worn out. 2nd gear the most common synchro to go, mainly caused by hard shifting. dont feel bad - all of us do it.. 'cept me anymore since I have an automatic..
