Help, I ran a carfax on a e39 540i but am kind of worried...

Well, I ran a carfax on this car and here is what it says:

I am worried about the amount of times the electrical system has been serviced. Is this something standard like a computer system check or do you think it was a on going problem? Thanks! It seems everything else is pretty clear... Thanks!

my carfax (99 528) doesn't mention any electrical system servicing
there might be somethign worng - but don't worry - in 2 years nothing broke down

Well what does "Electrical system serviced" mean? Its pretty vague. Could mean just about anything.

The E39 did tend to have electrical problems of many kinds. Mine had about six or seven. All were not cheap to fix, but I could live with most of them. The window regulators were not an ignore item.

I am just wondering if I should still drive 2.5 hrs Monday to see it. The owner has been totally honest about anything I should know and it seems as if the car was serviced on a pretty regularly schedule. I just hope the electrical stuff has been worked out. It looks as if since he has owned sine 04 he hasn't taken it in with anything that I can see? It has 84k miles on it now. Ughhh I hate searching for a new car!!! Thanks for the input so far, anyone else have any ideas?

Yeah, I'd go see it if I were you. Play with all of the electrical gizmos you can find--and don't be afraid to ask what the problems reported on carfax were.

When I ran a carfax on my 325i, I had a few electrical system serviced and I knew the previous owner. She told me that the passenger power seats would stop working. I just deal with it now, as long as my side works.

Dave, Find out more from the owner about the electrical issues.
It could be anything from lights under the visor not working to the alternator or blown fuses. I can deal with mechanical issues but electrical stuff is a nightmare.
Again, maybe he can provide you with the records from the dealer.

I would definetly find out what serviced electrical system means.Mine had a window regulator issue and a seat sensor problem, but that is all. That seems like a trend to me. There are thousands of these cars for sale. Why not be picky and find one that looks a little cleaner? Autotrader brought up 6 within 25 miles of my house...1998...2002 Good Luck!
